Image of the Week, January 15, 2016

Jan 15, 2016 - PhotographingSpace.com Image of the Week - Blood Moon, by Björn Hoffmann

Blood Moon, by Björn Hoffmann

This is a composition of the different phases of the lunar eclipse from September 2015. I used three different exposures for every shot. Thus I was able to perform HDR processing to account for the high contrasts. In this way it is possible to show both bright and dark areas in one image. When doing this, a small blue band becomes visible. Earth’s atmosphere does not only scatter red light into the shadow, but also a small amount of blue light in a smaller angle.

Setup: Sony A6000, Skywatcher Skymax 102/1300mm Maksutov-Cassegrain, Skywatcher Star Adventurer. Processing in Pipp, Lightroom and Photoshop.
